Us
Industrial and Production Engineering is emerging as a
specialized branch of Mechanical Engineering with an objective of enabling
engineers to improve efficiency and effectiveness of both manufacturing
and service sector Industries. A strong emphasis is laid on designing of
such systems of Man-Machine symbiosis, which facilitate optimum
utilization of scarce resources. It is concerned with the design of
Man-Machine System that attempts to optimize the resources, which are
becoming increasingly scarce. The Department of Industrial and Production Engineering,
NIT Jalandhar has been offering Under- graduate programme (B.Tech in
Industrial and Production Engineering) since 1989, and Post- graduate programme (M.Tech
in Industrial and Production Engineering) since 2001. The course curricula have been
designed compatible to the existing and emerging needs of the industry.
The autonomy of the institute is a privilege to the department in terms of
flexibility provided to add, modify and revise courses/syllabi at
different time intervals to cater contemporary needs of the industrial
concerns.
The department has already initiated a process of
procuring state-of-the-art facilities for the establishment of Centre for
Industrial Automation. The other laboratories have also been modernized
with the assistance of MHRD and AICTE sponsored projects. The department
shows no hesitation in imbibing valuable suggestions of eminent experts
from World class Institutions while framing teaching schemes or course
curricula. Faculty of Industrial and Production Engineering Department is quite energetic
and experienced. Culture of teamwork predominates in the department. Also,
there is a cordial work environment between the faculty and the students.
Adequate inputs of practical training, industrial training, case studies,
project work and computer applications are given to support core theory
courses.

world class or globally competent quality professionals with value based
technical knowledge, facilitate translation of Technology to business by
providing need oriented services to industries so as to make them
competent and adaptable to changing industrial environment in the globe.
